Park and prepare
Park level and set the parking brake. Lower raised wiper arms before opening the hood. Do not open it while Auto Idle Stop is active.

Release and support
Pull the dashboard hood-release handle. Move the latch under the central front edge sideways and raise the hood. Use the support rod foam grip, remove it from its clamp and seat it in the hood.

Close and verify
Return the rod to its clamp. Lower the hood and release it from about twelve inches (thirty centimeters). Confirm secure latching. Use the grip because the rod metal can be hot. A stiff or ineffective latch needs cleaning and lubrication.
