Start cold
Measure after at least three hours parked or less than one mile of driving. Use the doorjamb label for the correct pressures; a hot reading may be 4–6 psi higher.

Measure every tire
Use a gauge monthly and before long trips, including an optional spare. Adjust cold pressure to the specified value. Look at tires before daily driving and measure any that appear low.

Inspect condition
Look for bulges, cuts, exposed cord, uneven or excessive wear and valve-stem damage. A damaged tire needs attention, not just more air. Persistent driving vibration calls for inspection; uneven wear may call for alignment assessment.
