Separate cleaning from defrosting
BMW describes its OS7-and-newer defrost function as removing ice and condensation from the windshield and front side windows. That is a different task from removing a film that remains on dry glass. Observe when the haze appears: a report that distinguishes a persistent mark from temporary condensation is more useful than simply saying that the windshield is cloudy. Use the car’s defrost controls for condensation, following its own manual.

Prepare the glass-cleaning job
Check the container identity and instructions before starting. Set out dry paper towels or clean 100% cotton cloths, the wiping materials named by Rain-X. Keep this procedure on actual automotive glass; no claim is made here for a dashboard display, head-up projection screen, plastic lens or headlamp cover.

Apply, wipe and dry
Spray the cleaner onto the glass, wipe with a dry paper towel or cotton cloth, then wipe dry. Repeat the same sequence over the remaining glass surfaces within scope. The final dry wipe is part of the manufacturer’s method; leaving wet cleaner to evaporate is not the documented completion step.

Reassess an oily film
Rain-X advises that stubborn oily or degreaser residue may need two or more applications. Use multiple light cleaning passes rather than assuming that one wipe must remove the whole film. Assess after each pass so you can describe whether the affected area is becoming clearer. This guidance concerns residue removal, not a promise that cleaner repairs scratches or damaged glazing.

When the problem persists
Record whether the haze is inside or outside, whether it returns after drying, and which exact cleaner was used. A photograph in repeatable lighting can help a glass specialist compare the result. Stop adding different treatments without a diagnosis: this procedure provides a complete routine cleaning pass and a repeat-pass option for residue, not an escalating sequence of abrasives, solvents and coatings.
