A new coil may not fix the whole circuit

The ignition coil, boot and spark plug operate together. Damage or contamination in the boot and plug area can undermine an otherwise functional coil. Inspect the full path rather than assuming the most expensive component must be the cause.

Preserve the fault evidence

Record the cylinder-specific codes and operating conditions before clearing anything. Check for oil or water in the plug well, damaged connectors and tracking marks using the vehicle procedure. Never handle ignition components with the engine running.

Repair the source of contamination

If a leaking seal or water entry caused the problem, replacing a coil without addressing it can lead to another failure. Select the exact application and inspect the plug specification as part of the repair. A performance-branded coil is not a substitute for an accurate diagnosis.
