STEP 01

Save an equalizer curve

Open the receiver’s Sound settings. In EQ choose EQ Adjust to display Edit Custom EQ. Make modest changes to the curve and touch Save, selecting Custom 1 or Custom 2. Sony provides adjustments from −12 to +12; the available range is not a recommendation to maximize boost.

STEP 02

Set the seating position

Under Listening Position choose Front Left, Front Right, Front, All or Off as appropriate. For a measured setup choose Custom, then Time Alignment. Enter speaker-to-listener distances using the selected units; the interface adjusts in 0.1-inch or 1-centimeter increments.

STEP 03

Compare the result

Check Balance/Fader so an accidental channel bias does not disguise the result. Compare the saved EQ with the original using the same track and volume. Change one control group at a time and retain a usable baseline.
