VIAIR 88P: inflate a tire and read pressure with the compressor off

Use the analog 88P’s battery-clamp workflow and check pressure only after stopping airflow.

Vehicle / platform
Analog VIAIR 88P, part 00088, with twist-on chuck and battery clamps; not EVC digital or seven-pin variants.

STEP 01

Connect with the switch off

Confirm the compressor switch is OFF. Attach its battery clamps to the matching positive and negative terminals of the suitable 12V supply. Start the vehicle engine; VIAIR requires it to run during compressor use. Keep cables clear of moving components.

STEP 02

Inflate under observation

Attach the twist-on chuck to the tire valve and turn the compressor ON. Remain with it and monitor progress toward the vehicle’s specified tire pressure. Do not exceed the recommended pressure or treat the compressor’s gauge maximum as a tire target.

STEP 03

Stop to measure accurately

Switch OFF before checking actual pressure: VIAIR says airflow makes the running gauge reading inaccurate. Continue only if more air is needed. When correct, remove the chuck, leave the unit switched off and disconnect power. Let it cool before storage; do not add lubricant to this oil-less compressor.
