OBDLink coverage: check the module, model year and adapter

Verify standard and enhanced OBDLink coverage separately before expecting ABS codes, transmission data or manufacturer-specific modules.

Vehicle / platform
OBDLink app coverage reference. Enhanced support is primarily North American and must be checked by model year and module.

Start with the question you need answered

“Works with my car” is too broad when the actual goal is to read an ABS fault or watch transmission temperature. Write down the vehicle’s model year, market and exact system you need. Then check the app and adapter together. A plug that fits the diagnostic socket does not promise access to every module.

Standard OBD-II is not every ECU

Standard data is mainly emissions-related. OBDLink treats additional manufacturer-specific codes and parameters as enhanced diagnostics. ABS, SRS and TPMS access therefore needs its own coverage check. The ability to read engine codes is not evidence that the same setup can reset service functions, run actuator tests or perform coding.

STEP 01

Read all three coverage sections

Open the manufacturer’s linked OEM-Specific Enhanced Diagnostics Support Coverage PDF. First check the maker’s supported code and live-data categories; next check the exact model and year; finally check the OEM module list. The vehicle may contain only a subset of those modules. Enhanced code support and enhanced live data are separate columns.

Keep hardware limits in the decision

MX+ supports Ford MS-CAN and GM SW-CAN; buying a software add-on does not give LX those hardware capabilities. LX is listed for Android and Windows, while MX+ also supports iOS. CX uses Bluetooth Low Energy and is optimized for BMW; OBDLink excludes pre-2008 GM, Ford and certain FCA vehicles for CX. Check the current comparison rather than treating every OBDLink adapter as equivalent.

Account for the app and region

The OBDLink coverage article is centered on MX+ and primarily North American vehicles. It identifies certain GM, Honda/Acura and Hyundai/Kia add-ons as MX+-exclusive. A third-party app may have a different coverage list and licensing arrangement. Confirm the actual function with that developer before buying a second app to solve a gap.
