Separate octane from detergency
TOP TIER addresses fuel detergent performance, while the vehicle’s octane requirement is a separate specification. At a licensed gasoline retailer, the TOP TIER standard applies across its octane grades. Buying premium is not the only way to obtain that detergent standard.

Meet the engine’s requirement first
Use the octane and ethanol limits specified for the vehicle and its current calibration. A tuned vehicle may have a different fuel requirement from the original manual. Detergent certification does not make lower-octane fuel suitable for a higher-octane tune.

Check the current retailer list
Use the program’s current licensed-brand list rather than an old forum graphic. Do not assume an unlisted station qualifies because it advertises premium gasoline. PHTM does not claim a particular retailer will produce a measurable power increase in your car.
