Remove the threaded button
Protect the original button with a towel or rubber sleeve if trying to preserve its finish. Grip it carefully with locking pliers, keeping the tool off the brake handle itself. Unscrew counterclockwise on the standard right-hand thread, repositioning the pliers as needed until the button clears the handle.

Install with the spring present
Leave the original spring inside the handle. Screw the PERRIN button on until it stops. The manufacturer notes that the factory button can be damaged during removal even when care is taken.

Check the intended behavior
Test the handle and release button to confirm that they operate as before. Stop if the automatic latching behavior has changed unexpectedly. The important completion check is brake operation, not simply whether the replacement button looks straight.
