Scalloped tire wear and a growing hum: check for cupping

Inspect tires, balance and suspension together rather than rotating away the evidence.

Identify the pattern

Cupping produces uneven high and low areas around the tread and can accompany noise or vibration. Photograph the pattern and note which corner it came from. A road-speed hum can have other causes, so avoid diagnosing a wheel bearing solely by sound.

Inspect the supporting system

Bridgestone identifies balance, alignment and suspension condition as relevant checks. A technician should assess the complete wheel-and-tire assembly and worn supporting parts. Replacing the tire alone may leave the cause in place.

Keep the repair record

Ask for tire measurements and the inspection findings before rotation or replacement. Correct the underlying issue and follow the approved rotation pattern afterward. If handling changes or structural damage appears, have the car assessed before continuing normal use.
