Two different instructions

A directional tire uses a rotation arrow that must point in the forward rolling direction. An asymmetric tire uses inside/outside sidewall markings. These are not interchangeable rules: an asymmetric pattern can look different on opposite sides of the car while still being correctly fitted.

Check before moving wheels

Read the actual sidewall rather than deciding from the tread photograph. A directional wheel-and-tire assembly usually cannot simply cross to the other side while keeping the intended rotation. Staggered sizes add another restriction. Follow the vehicle and tire rotation pattern for the installed combination.

If a tire is mounted incorrectly

Have a tire professional correct the mounting and rebalance where required. Do not accept “the tread looks close enough” as an inspection. Record the intended wheel positions during seasonal removal so the next installation does not repeat the mistake.
