Start with transmission identity

ZF supplies different fluids and kits for different transmission families and applications. LifeguardFluid 8 is not a generic choice for every automatic, and a larger product number does not mean it supersedes all lower numbers.

Use the current application list

Match the transmission variant and vehicle with ZF’s current lubricant and kit information. Check the filter or pan arrangement, seals and supplied fasteners. Similar-looking pans do not establish that the same kit applies.

Respect the fill procedure

Correct fluid alone is not a complete service. Temperature, level checking, gear-selection steps and hardware instructions remain transmission-specific. Do not use a bottle count as the final level measurement. Diagnose existing shift faults separately from routine maintenance.
