Transmission identity comes first
A CVT and a stepped automatic can need different fluids even within the same vehicle model range. Identify the transmission by the vehicle record and service information. A shifter that says automatic is not enough.
Match the specification
Valvoline sells separate CVT and conventional ATF products. Read the current application list and any exclusions for the exact fluid. “Multi-vehicle” does not mean every automatic, dual-clutch transmission or CVT. Do not substitute based on viscosity appearance or fluid color.
Service method still matters
Fluid compatibility does not provide a fill level or temperature procedure. Obtain the vehicle-specific service method and equipment before draining anything. If the transmission has a fault, document it before service rather than assuming a fluid change will repair an internal or control problem.
