Inspect before putting the set away
Record each wheel’s position and tire size, then photograph tread and sidewalls. Mark damage for professional assessment now rather than discovering it on the next cold morning. Keep tread measurements with the set. Labeling positions is a record, not permission to rotate a staggered or directional setup in an unsuitable pattern.
Clean and dry
Michelin recommends removing salt, dirt and brake dust and letting the set dry before storage. Use a cleaning method suitable for the wheel finish and tire. Do not bag wet assemblies. Store them in a cool, dry, dark indoor area away from heat and direct sunlight. Individual bags help keep the set organized and protected.
Mounted and unmounted are different
Michelin’s storage guidance allows mounted assemblies to be stacked horizontally and places unmounted tires upright. Use a secure arrangement that cannot fall onto a person or damage the wheels. Keep bolts, locks and any dedicated hardware labeled separately; do not assume summer-wheel hardware suits the winter set.
Plan the return to service
Before refitting, check condition, age, pressure requirements and the intended front/rear placement. Tire load and speed ratings must suit the vehicle; size alone is insufficient. Have uncertain damage inspected and verify wheel hardware and torque against the correct application. Keep the changeover date and mileage so seasonal wear can be compared instead of remembered.
