Verify M Compound versus optional M Carbon Ceramic brakes.

The cited manual is for the Coupe. G83 is in the hub, but its exact manual and equipment need separate verification. The 2019 general M brake bulletin is explanatory, not a G82-specific repair instruction.

Compound and carbon ceramic are not one procedure

The 2022 M4 manual distinguishes the two systems and gives different initial bedding-in guidance. Use the instructions for the actual equipment; do not copy a generic aggressive braking routine from the internet.

What to record

STEP 01

Describe the sound

Note cold or warm brakes, wet or dry conditions, light or firm braking and whether the sound occurs near a stop. Include recent pad, disc or wheel work.

STEP 02

Separate noise from function

Report pedal changes, pulling, vibration and warnings separately. A sound that resembles a known M-brake characteristic does not prove that another symptom has the same cause.

A useful professional comparison

BMW’s general M-brake reference explains several condition-dependent noises and advises customers who are unsure to contact service. It also favors conservative cleaning of brake dust rather than high-pressure jets. It predates this chassis and must not be treated as its parts-replacement instruction.

After the inspection

Ask which brake system and condition were identified, and whether the finding is a characteristic or a fault. Keep that explanation with the vehicle’s brake-service record.
