Let the wheels cool first
Griot’s wheel-care guidance warns against applying water or cleaner to warm or hot wheels. Park in shade and let the wheels and brakes cool before starting. A stronger cleaner does not compensate for unsuitable working conditions.

Match the cleaner to the finish
Identify whether the wheel is painted, clear-coated, polished or has a specialty finish. Follow both the wheel maker’s care requirements and the cleaner label. Test an inconspicuous area when the finish history is uncertain.

Work methodically
Use dedicated wheel-cleaning tools, avoid letting the product dry and rinse as directed. Do not transfer brake-dust-contaminated brushes to the paintwork. Remaining staining may need finish-specific treatment rather than repeated aggressive scrubbing that damages the surface.
