Set up a clean work area
Have the correct cleaner and oil, low-pressure water, and somewhere clean for natural drying. Record which way the filter sat before removal. With the engine off and cool, use the intake’s removal procedure and keep loose grit out of the clean air path. Account for any temporary protective cover before reassembly. Allow enough downtime to finish drying rather than planning to drive with an unfinished filter.
Lift loose dirt, then apply cleaner
Handle the removed element gently and lightly tap off loose debris. Apply Power Kleen to both sides and let it work for ten minutes without allowing it to dry on the media.

Rinse outward and dry naturally
Use cool, low-pressure water from the clean side toward the dirty side until it runs clear. Repeat cleaning if needed. Gently shake away excess water and let the filter dry naturally and completely before oiling.

Use the correct oil benchmark
Check the individual filter’s specification page for its factory oil quantity. Use K&N filter oil along the pleat crowns; for the aerosol method, keep the nozzle about three inches away. Allow approximately twenty minutes for wicking, then touch up pale areas. Do not saturate the element. If it drips, K&N says to let the dripping stop and wipe excess from the frame.

Inspect the seal and finish the job
Check for torn media or a damaged sealing edge before refitting. Reassemble using the intake’s own instructions and verify every clip, clamp and connection disturbed during access. Cleaning a damaged element does not restore its sealing surface. If the part number or oil amount cannot be established, stop and ask K&N rather than choosing a quantity by appearance.
