Read S&B’s terminology

S&B offers cotton cleanable and dry extendable filter choices. “Dry” is not a universal promise that a filter can be washed like another brand’s synthetic element. Use the instructions for the actual S&B media and part number.

Plan the correct service

For a cotton cleanable element, use the specified wash and oil process. For a dry extendable element, follow S&B’s separate maintenance and replacement directions. Do not add oil merely because the intake previously had a red filter.

Inspect the assembly

Check the filter flange, sealing edge and intake enclosure before reinstalling. A damaged seal can defeat an otherwise clean element. Record the filter part number and media type, and retain the instructions rather than relying on a generic reusable-filter video next time.
