Identify the intake and element
This concerns the MST BW-B5801 first-generation B58 intake on the F30 340i. Read the installed kit number rather than ordering by cone-filter appearance. MST’s replacement-filter lookup associates BW-B5801 with OFI-89145. Confirm the current listing before purchase; another MST B58 kit can use a different element.
Use the specified care method
MST lists a 20,000 km cleaning interval and 60,000 km replacement interval for this intake. Those are manufacturer recommendations for the product, not BMW factory service intervals or a guarantee for every environment. Its replacement-filter instructions specify neutral cleaner or warm water. Obtain the complete current directions before cleaning; do not apply oil or an aggressive solvent by analogy with a different brand.
Inspect while it is accessible
With the engine off, photograph the filter and clamp position before removal. Check the sealing neck, media and nearby connections for damage or movement. Keep debris out of the open intake. If the element is torn or no longer seats properly, cleaning is not a repair. Ask MST for the correct replacement rather than modifying a roughly similar filter to fit.
Refit and keep a record
Allow the element to dry as directed before installation, secure it correctly and verify surrounding clearance. Check normal operation before considering the job finished. Record mileage, cleaning method and replacement number with the intake invoice. If drivability changed after service, revisit the disturbed connections and cleaning procedure; do not assume a tune is required to conceal a maintenance mistake.
