Start with the climate
Summer tires prioritize warm-weather operation and are not a winter substitute. All-season tires cover a broader compromise, while dedicated winter tires address sustained cold and winter conditions. Choose around the conditions you cannot avoid, not only the nicest weekend drive.

Consider a second set
A seasonal setup can separate summer response from winter capability, but it adds storage and changeover work. Compare the full cost including wheels, sensors where needed and storage. One year-round set is simpler only if it suits the actual conditions.

Keep the vehicle balanced
Do not combine summer tires on one axle with winter tires on the other. Maintain the vehicle’s specified sizes and service ratings. A category choice does not establish that a particular product fits your wheel or brake package.
