Read the symbol correctly

The three-peak mountain snowflake, often written 3PMSF, indicates that the tire meets an industry snow-traction requirement. It is more specific than simply reading an M+S marking. Check the actual tire and size being purchased.

Do not infer every winter behavior

The marking does not make every all-weather or all-terrain tire equivalent to a dedicated winter tire in every braking, cornering or ice condition. Compare the intended category and credible testing in the conditions that matter to you.

Make a practical choice

If winter travel is unavoidable, assess local snow and ice, temperature, hills and the ability to delay travel. Select a matched, correctly specified set. AWD helps distribute drive force; it does not turn a poorly suited tire into a winter braking solution.
