STEP 01

Capture the full fault

Open Fault Codes for the intended controller. Retain the VAG code, generic P-code when present, component identifier and failure-mode text. Many VAG faults have no generic equivalent.

STEP 02

Include available context

Enable freeze-frame display when the module supports it. Treat recorded date and time cautiously: some controllers do not know the actual date. Keep fault frequency and reset-counter fields with the report.

STEP 03

Save the evidence

Choose Save Codes for a plain-text report in the VCDS Logs directory, or Copy Codes and paste into a document. Reopen the file before ending the diagnostic session.

Interpret priority carefully

Ross-Tech describes priority 1 as requiring an immediate stop and priority 2 as requiring an immediate service appointment. Preserve that field rather than reducing the report to the code alone.
