Confirm the symptom and key
Reduced range or the low-key-battery message can indicate a weak transmitter battery. The illustrated 2020 key uses CR2032 or equivalent. Compare the key shell with Mazda’s drawings; a replacement aftermarket shell can open differently. Keep coin cells away from children.

Use the drawings
Mazda’s linked sequence releases the lower cover and upper-cover tab, then uses a tape-wrapped flat screwdriver to open the cover and battery cap. Follow the illustrated pry points rather than forcing the seam. Avoid touching circuitry, bending contacts or introducing grit.

Reassemble and test
Install the replacement with the positive side facing up, then refit the cap and covers. Test locking and unlocking near the car before relying on the key. Insulate the old cell’s terminals for disposal and use an appropriate battery collection route. If the case will not close easily, check alignment instead of crushing it shut.
