Use a repeatable warm-engine reading rather than topping up from a rushed measurement.

Prepare the measurement

Park on level ground. Mazda specifies warming the engine to normal operating temperature, stopping it and waiting at least five minutes for oil to return to the sump. Secure the car before opening the hood and keep clear of hot components.

Read and repeat

Remove the dipstick, wipe it clean, fully reinsert it and withdraw it again. Read the level against the minimum and maximum marks. If the reading is smeared or uncertain, repeat under the same conditions rather than guessing how much oil is missing.

Top up carefully

Use the specified oil only when the reading requires it, adding gradually and rechecking. Do not overfill. Seat the dipstick fully, including its seal. Record a falling or rising level over time; repeated correction deserves diagnosis rather than a permanent bottle in the trunk.
