Get the requirement

Use the exact vehicle manual or manufacturer service information to record viscosity and required performance approval. Engine, model year and market can change the answer. Do not carry a recommendation from a previous car to the next one just because both take 5W-30.

Check the actual container

Use Castrol’s vehicle finder as a cross-check, then compare the current product label and technical sheet. A product family can include several grades and approvals. Keep a photograph of the label with the service record so a future purchase is not based only on color or branding.

Do not infer an interval

Correct approval and an extended-drain marketing claim are different questions. Follow the vehicle’s oil-life system and maintenance limits, including severe use where specified. If the car is modified, get a documented service plan rather than choosing thicker oil as a universal remedy.
