Choose a valid reading

Park on level ground. Ford allows a check before starting the engine, or after warming and switching off with a 15-minute wait. Checking immediately after shutdown can produce a misleading low reading. This scope is the non-hybrid 3.5 EcoBoost configuration.

Read the lower side

Wipe the dipstick with a clean lint-free cloth, fully reinstall it and withdraw it again. Read both sides and use the lower indication. Ford says the level is acceptable between the minimum and maximum marks; do not add oil just to chase the top line.

Watch for changes

Add the specified oil when required and reseat the dipstick. Repeated readings above maximum also deserve inspection; they are not an invitation to ignore the level. Log the measurement conditions and mileage so a technician can distinguish a trend from inconsistent checking.
