STEP 01

Record the timing

Note whether the smell or wetness began immediately after an oil service or top-up. Photograph accessible residue with the engine off and cool; keep hands away from hot or moving components.

Sources 1

STEP 02

Separate residue from an active leak

A workshop may need to clean the affected area and inspect for renewed leakage. Oil lower down does not establish which seal above it is leaking.

Sources 1

STEP 03

Use the engine-specific repair path

The bulletin has a bolt-check sequence and a gasket-repair instruction. This is not permission to tighten random cover bolts. If the documented looseness is absent, continue diagnosis rather than treating the cover as confirmed.
