Look at the pattern

A greasy smear across the sweep suggests contamination; an unwiped strip can point to blade damage, poor contact or fitment. Inspect in daylight with the vehicle parked. Do not repeatedly run dry blades across gritty glass.

Clean and recheck

Clean the windshield with a compatible glass cleaner and wipe residue from the blade as instructed. Road film, wax and deteriorating treatment can interfere with wiping. Follow the exact product’s preparation or activation directions if using a water-repellent blade.

Know when cleaning is finished

Torn rubber, a distorted frame, loose connector or persistent poor contact needs repair or replacement. Check the correct application and arm condition. Keep a note of which cleaning step changed the symptom so the next purchase is based on evidence rather than replacing every part at once.
