Understand what it does

Permatex describes its spark-plug grease as a dielectric silicone compound used for protection and easier boot installation. Dielectric grease is not a conductive repair for a loose or corroded electrical contact.

Apply only where directed

Use the component manufacturer’s instructions for location and quantity. Some replacement parts already contain the intended compound. Do not pack every connector with grease or substitute it for a product specified for a different material or temperature.

Fix the mechanical connection first

A damaged terminal, weak contact or broken seal requires repair. Clean and inspect the connection using the appropriate procedure, then use the approved protective compound if called for. Do not confuse dielectric grease with spark-plug thread anti-seize; they serve different purposes and are not interchangeable.
